Assistive technology is commonly defined as any device that helps an individual with a disability to maintain, improve, or increase their functioning to complete tasks in the home, at work, or in the classroom. These devices may be purchased by insurance, vocational rehabilitation, or the school district. Unfortunately, these items are often not covered under these programs and the cost of the items is too much for the individual or their family. If you find yourself in this situation consider contacting the vendor of the product to see if they can finance the device, check with your tech act center to learn about the device reutilization program, or use a low interest loan program.
