Katherine is a volume sales assistant for a manufacturing company called Top Promotions in Madison, Wisconsin. This is her first position after graduating from the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater where she majored in Print Journalism with a minor in Spanish.
Her position entails promotional activities, processing purchase orders of apparel, and order entries. Most recently she has been put in charge of the business’s sub-contracts, an entry into the more managerial tasks at Top Promotions. Ms. Watson has been totally blind since birth as a result of retinopathy of prematurity. She uses a speech-based computer access program called JAWS to do all her computer work as well as Braille for note taking; she likes to keep her calendar in Braille to easily refer to shipment dates, and other details. Ms. Watson feels that her current job is a great first job, a real team working environment where she has learned a great deal about manufacturing and the business world. Because of her passion for writing, she free lances, has already published an article, and is the Assistant Editor of Slate and Style, a publication of the National Federation of the Blind. She also already has a novel in the works.
